Looking for the good things

It was been one of those weeks filled with life's tiny disappointments.  On their own they are no big deal.  When they come one after another you want to scream ENOUGH!   Nothing large or major small things that add up and gnaw away at my usual mostly positive attitude.  Most of the week has been a bit off kilter.  So today I decided it's time to find the Good Things that surround me.

Family! My beautiful daughter all dressed up for Junior Prom.  This was the last photo I was allowed to take.  She is smiling but on the inside she is screaming ENOUGH!  Maybe I should have titled this post ENOUGH!

Receiving Making magazine in the mail this week was definitely a Good Thing.  This is my new favorite magazine, so lovely.  It is packed full of amazing projects.  The knitting patterns are stunning.  I MUST learn to knit.  It is more than knitting projects.  It has sewing, recipes, journaling, and a variety of crafts.  I am making the tiny crochet flowers necklace, although I may use mine as a garland.  There is so much crafty inspiration between these pages.

A silly dog that wants to know what I'm doing is another Good Thing.  There is nothing like a pet to make you smile and sometimes yell not so nice words.  Luckily for me Bru was being a good dog this week.  The summer tote bag full of yarn is not so bad either.  All yarn was pulled out of my own stash.  I'm counting yarn hoarding as a Good Thing.

A mostly clean dining room table is Good Thing in our home.  I am guilty of using this table as my own personal holding/dumping area.  A few months back I challenged myself to keeping it clear. Besides Avi, it has my daughter's artwork and the granny square blanket.  I've been making granny squares and another row has been added.  Progress on the granny square blanket is a Good Thing.

The screened porch is clean and ready for me to sit and stitch or sit and read.  The weather has been wonderfully mild.  These are such Good Things.  Summer heat is due to return next week.  I will make good use of the porch before it becomes too hot.

I could go on and on of all the Good Things in my life.  It's nice to share a few and in the process remind myself how many Good Things do surround me.  It helps take the sting out of those tiny disappointments.

I think I'll go make a granny square.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit.  Lisa

  1. Hi Lisa, your daughter is beautiful! What a gorgeous gown. I hope she had a good time at the prom. Your staircase is incredible, like something in a castle.

    1. Hi Jennifer, thank you for the kind words about my daughter. She is the most beautiful girl in the world to me. I know you must feel the same about your little girl as well (so enjoy your blog.) In full disclosure the staircase is at a friend's home. It is such a lovely place for a photo. I'm only the tiniest bit envious of such a magnificent home. Then I think about cleaning it and suddenly my home seems just perfect!
      Have a wonderful week, Lisa

  2. Your daughter looks lovely in her prom dress! It suits her well. I hope she had a wonderful time.

We have had one of those weeks too. Considering the events of the weekend in Orlando, it's hard to see the good. But, there IS good and I will be working hard to find it.

  3. I hear you on the little things that can drag you down a bit. My niggly health problems being the first. Newest symptom is a burning sensation or stomach ache mostly all the time. Irritating as I usually don't have such problems. Plus, our dryer stopped working 2 days ago. And that same evening, we didn't have any water in our building. But, in the grand scheme of things, I know it all doesn't really matter, and things can be fixed and there's always the good stuff to remind us of how blessed we are. Your daughter looks lovely and Bru and Avi sure are cuties. "Making" is always a wonderful thing. Have a good week.

  4. I was going to comment, too, on that amazing staircase (and actually, big empty room to house it in), but I see it belongs to a friend. I had to laugh at your comment about how thoughts of cleaning such a big house make you content with your smaller one. This is so true. Contentment really is at our fingertips when we embrace what is true, and the gifts we've truly been given.

Your screened porch photo and comments remind me... I power washed the back of the house last week and have a nice and clean sheltered patio area in which to sit. I need to plan time in the mornings to sit out there and enjoy the coolness of the morning. Now that we're in the 80's and 90's the cool of the morning is the likeliest time to find to enjoy my clean spot.

Beautiful pictures, Lisa. And I love how you've found the Good Things right under your nose. :)

  5. your daughter is a beauty!! I love that you have a screened in porch our old house had one and I missed it terribly. I took it for granted!! Anyways, do you like the making mag? I haven't seen it when I'm out and about, to give it a look through.
